Hi Friend of Volunteer Park — Volunteer Park Trust is a volunteer organization founded in 2013 to preserve and enhance Volunteer Park, our city and national landmark, for today and for generations to come. Since our founding, the Trust has worked tirelessly to improve the landscape through our monthly Second Saturday work parties and twice-yearly stewardship events. We spearheaded the design and planting of two large garden beds and in 2022 and planted 25,000 daffodil bulbs on the western slope of the park in memory of our founder, Doug Bayley. Our events celebrate and activate the park to benefit our neighbors as well as visitors from near and far. The Summer Picnic in the Park, Holiday in the Park, and the Halloween Pet Parade are now annual traditions. We just concluded the second annual Summer Series at the Amphitheater, a free six-concert series highlighting the new Amphitheater with diverse music and dance performances. This series brings joy to our community. Volunteer Park Trust has built on our success in planning and fundraising for the new Amphitheater with new capital projects. We raised funds for the iron railings around the lily ponds and funded new lighting. In the past year, we replaced the trash and recycling receptacles throughout the park, making them more functional and aesthetically pleasing. Based on input from our supporters, we are making plans for the future. In the coming year, we will work with Seattle Parks and Recreation to replace a water fountain in front of the Seattle Asian Art Museum (complete with a dog bowl!), arrange for new plantings to restore those damaged in many of the beds, upgrade some of the existing gravel paths and install new garden benches. Your support makes our work possible. Please consider making a gift to Volunteer Park Trust today. We promise to continue our efforts to keep Volunteer Park the amazing green space we all enjoy. Together, we can make a difference in the future of our park. |
Yours sincerely, Jennifer Ott Chair, Volunteer Park Trust |
