However, it currently has a $267 million backlog of citywide park maintenance costs, and cannot fully address all the needs of Volunteer Park's 48 acres and aging infrastructure. Volunteer Park Trust was formed to help address these needs.

Friends of Seattle's Olmsted Parks (FSOP) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving Seattle’s unique Olmsted landscape heritage and raising awareness of the Olmsted philosophy of providing open space for all people.

Volunteer Park is a city and national historic landmark. Any major changes to the park or its buildings must be approved by Seattle's Landmarks Preservation Board.
