Get a sneak peak at what plants will be offered at the FOC Annual Fall Plant Sale just two weeks later on Sat Sept 7. House Plant enthusiast, Tom, will be able to answer your questions: What plant will thrive in my bathroom? What plant will not kill my cat? What plant will clean the air I breathe? How do I prevent root rot and over watering?
We will be covering general houseplant care: Light, Temperature, Water, Humidity + Pest Control and Fertilizer Needs
General Plant Types:
1) Low, Medium, and Bright
2) Air Purifying Plants
3) Toxic vs Non Toxic Plants (for your pets!)
Instructor Tom Matney: Tom is a long-time resident of Seattle, avid lover of the Volunteer Park Conservatory and a board member on the Friends of the Conservatory board.
Tom doesn’t really have a favorite plant in the Conservatory, as he says, “That always seems to change when the gardeners bring in something I haven’t seen before,” but he’s really looking forward to when the Jade Vine blooms again (we are, too!).
His favorite Houses in the Conservatory are the Fern, Bromeliad and Cactus Houses.
Tom has been volunteering at our Plant Sales since the early 2000s and goes above and beyond to support the FOC and the Conservatory.
