From Vine to Pint Glass: Hops and Barley in the Brewing Process

Learn about beer, hops, and the brewing process in Volunteer Park Conservatory!

Join us inside the Conservatory’s beautiful Seasonal House to learn from beer brewer/scientists Krystin and Rachel from Fremont Brewing to explain the process of making beer from hops. During the lecture, attendees will receive three 4oz tastings of different beer. The final portion of the workshop will include a 12oz Fremont beer to enjoy during the Q&A portion of the lecture.

Topics covered (with beer tasting in between to demonstrate the topics being addressed):

-Barley/malt use in brewing (beer tasting)
-Other plant use in brewing: corn, rice, coffee, oats, wheat
-Hop use in brewing and anti-microbial properties (beer tasting)
-Hop sensory: common aromas
-Examples of hop varieties in beer (beer tasting)
