Virtual Ikebana Workshop at the Conservatory
November 14, 2020 @ 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm PST
$25Create beautiful Ikebana floral arrangements with the Volunteer Park Conservatory
In the simplest sense, Ikebana is the Japanese art of flower arrangement. From its humble and traditional origins, it has grown to be an international art phenomenon involving diverse art forms such as sculpture, architecture, painting, and multimedia explorations. At the heart of Ikebana is a lifestyle that promotes a deep understanding and respect for nature materials. From mini arrangements to multistory installations, Ikebana opens up a world of artistic expression that gives color to any space and punctuates any occasion. Ikebana instructor Fanny Yau will share about the history and origins of Ikebana, do a live demonstration creating an Ikebana arrangement and guide students through creating their own arrangement, all virtually! Fanny will engage with students, provide individualized instruction on students arrangements and provide opportunity for students to ask questions.
Students will need to pick up their ‘Ikebana Kits’ of materials at the Volunteer Park Conservatory on 11/7/20, the Saturday before the workshop from 12-3pm. Kits include the container to create the arrangement in, floral foam and decorative sticks. Please contact us if you are unavailable for Kit pickup on November 7th.Students will need to supply their own pruning shears and purchase flowers for their arrangement. Flowers can be purchased at a local nursery or grocery store.
The workshop will take place on Zoom, live from Fanny’s Ikebana studio. Feel free to join us on Zoom 15 minutes prior to the start of the workshop to make sure you can get connected and don’t have any technical issues. Fanny recommends using an iphone or tablet for this workshop so you can easily flip the camera to show your Ikebana creation and ask questions.
